HAUTE Skincare Tips: How the Microcurrent Facial Helps Keep Skin Looking Young

“This is a much less invasive treatment than most youth-preserving procedures and the results are much more natural looking,” says Bridget, the energetic esthetician who leads the skincare division of Haute European Salon & Beauty Products. “It’s a very new-age, therapeutic treatment that delivers safe, painless electrical impulses focusing at strategic locations under the skin to firm and tone facial muscles.”

Explaining the benefits of this new treatments, Bridget is aglow with excitement. “If you have eye puffiness after sleepless nights with the kids, lots of sun exposure and worry lines, a microcurrent facial will make a big difference in your appearance. It gives you the feel of freshness and vitality even after one treatment, but the real good effects work after a few session.”

She had me at reducing sleep-deprived eye puffiness (kids, as we all know, slowly drain you of your energy and youthfulness and mine have superpower in energy-reduction). While my heart is saying “Go for it, now!” seeing the last years of sleepless nights weariness on my face, my mind has a million questions, like “what exactly happens during a microcurrent facial?” “Is it REALLY safe” and “Should I start doing now, in my early 30s”. Luckily, Bridget is open to all these questions and answer them happily.

What exactly happens during a microcurrent facial?

Microcurrent facial involves applying low-level, waveform-shaped electrical impulses through dual tipped probes in combination with a water-based conductive gel. There’s over 32 muscles in the face that are stimulated with the procedure, physically moving muscles in different positions that improves circulation, texture, tone and fine lines. It works internally on the muscle fiber and tissue to provide muscle strength and restore freshness. Just think of it as taking your face to the gym!

Is it REALLY safe?

While use of probes doesn’t ease the mind, Bridget explains that in fact it is zero-pain, non-invasive treatment closer to a deep-muscle massage than dramatic plastic surgery procedures like chemical peels, Collagen and Botox. It is often called a ‘non-surgical facelift’ that evens out skin tone and smoothes texture, enhances the body’s natural collagen and elastin production and tightens enlarged pores. Also, it’s pretty relaxing.

As safe as it is, the only people who really shouldn’t have this treatment done are pregnant women and those who suffer from seizures and heart conditions.

Should I start doing it now, in my early 30s?

Bridget, a mother of five, smiles and says that once you have kids, your skin will change with regular daily wear-and-tear (especially those long, sleepless nights) so mothers of all ages will benefit from this treatment. Bur really, as soon as you start seeing signs of aging, uneven skin texture from sun damage, worry lines then it’s a good idea to start microcurrent facials. This treatment will give a real youthful boost to your appearance.

How often do you need to get it done?

The results can vary by individual and skin type, are gradual, and will not just “happen” overnight. Microcurrent facials do produce and immediate and temporary rejuvenating effect, but it’s best to do a series of 3-5 treatments to really stimulate the facial muscles.
